Luc's Mexican Garcinia
Luc’s Mexican Garcinia (garcinia species)
These plants are grown and shipped in a 9.5” deep pots. Plants are 5”+ tall. Most seedlings have 1 sets of leaves at this point, but some have 2 sets. Larger seedlings are shipped out first on a first come first served basis.
Note: only grafted trees make fruits that are exactly the same as their parent trees. Seedling trees may show traits which are different from the parent trees to varying degrees

General Info
This garcinia species comes from Mexico where it is known locally as limoncillo. It was introduced to fruit growers via Luc Vleeracker only about a decade ago. Growers in Florida are beginning to successfully fruit this unknown species.
Size
15’+ but slow growing
Growing Conditions
Trees grow very slowly but pick up considerably after 2-3 years, though it is still a slow grower overall. Trees appreciate shade for the first couple of years, after which they can be gradually acclimated to full sun conditions, though they still perform admirably in indirect sunlight. Trees are quite hardy and appear to thrive in wet or dry conditions, though a well drained soil that receives ample water is likely ideal.
Years to Fruit
Luc's Mexican Garcinia can produce fruit in as little as 6-7 years from seed if well cared for, though it could take longer.
Taste
The fruit is reported to be of excellent quality, having both sweet and lemony-tart components. There is considerable flesh as it has a relatively small seed and is one of the largest garcinia fruits.
Climate
Tropical/Sub-Tropical
Cold Tolerance
There are claims of seedlings surviving temperatures in the mid-20sF, but its a good idea to protect young plants if possible.
Propagation
Seeds.
Source
Seeds were obtained from Mexico. These trees were found in the mountains surrounding the town of Talpa de Allende in Jalisco state. The town itself has an elevation of 3800’ with the surrounding mountains reaching 7000’+, though it is unknown which elevation these seeds were harvested at.
