General Info
Native to the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil, this shrub/small tree produces dark-purple and tasty fruits. Trees which are grown in the sub-tropics may lose their leaves with the onset of cold weather, but will regrow just fine in spring when warmer weather returns.

Growing Conditions
Rainforest plum grows best in full sun. The tree will need irrigation when flowering and fruiting unless adequate rainfall is present. In Florida, many eugenia species fruit in spring during drought conditions and hence need irrigation for better fruit development.
Years to Fruit
Rainforest plum can fruit in as little as 3 years from seed, though it may take longer.
Taste
The small fruits are said to have firm, thick, fleshy, succulent pulp with a pleasant flavor.

There are claims of 3-4 year old trees surviving exposure to 26F for 6 hours and 28F for 8 hours.
