General Info
Jaboticaba ‘Campo Ramon’ is a jaboticaba selection from Campo Ramon in Misiones state of Argentina. It is a fairly new introduction into the united states. Trees bear early, have wavy leaves and nice tasting fruits.
Size
25’+ but slow growing
Growing Conditions
Being that this is a fairly new introduction into the United States, the growing conditions are unknown. It is likely that this jaboticaba will need chelated iron or be grafted onto ‘sabara’ rootstock in order to grow without issue in Florida’s soil and city water. Besides that, jaboticabas in general like low pH, lots of water, and filtered light for the first few years, after which they may be transferred to full sun.
Years to Fruit
The collector has indicated that the mother tree began fruiting at 5 years old from seed, but this is under ideal conditions in the native habitat of the tree, so expect your seedling to take a bit longer to bear.
Taste
Sweet jaboticaba taste with a thick skin.
Climate
Tropical/Sub-Tropical
Cold Tolerance
Mature trees are said to be cold tolerant down to about 21F.
Propagation
Seeds.
Source
Seeds were obtained from Argentina.
