Grafted Red Hybrid Jaboticaba
Grafted Red Hybrid Jaboticaba (plinia sp.)
Limited quantity. Larger plants are shipped out first on a first come first served basis.
These grafted trees should fruit relatively quickly (2-3 years). We have even seen them flower immediately after grafting, though this result is a bit unusual.
Note: Grafted trees retain the named variety’s genetics. In this case, ‘sabara’ jaboticaba will, in time, fruit below the graft union, allowing for 2 varieties to fruit on the same tree. This is really only possible with jaboticaba since they fruit directly on the main trunks and branches.

General Info
Mature budwood was used to graft this Red Hybrid jaboticaba, which means it should fruit relatively quickly. Red jaboticaba is the second most common jaboticaba in Florida. It is likely a cross between plinia cauliflora and plinia aureana. The advantage it has over 'sabara’ (the most common type) is that it fruits much more quickly. Expect leaf tips to turn brown in the winter. New flushes of growth in spring should be without brown tips.
Size
20’+ but it is slow-growing
Growing Conditions
This red hybrid is grafted on ‘sabara’ rootstock and therefore behave like ‘sabara’ jaboticaba would. Plants like lots of water and can be grown in partial-shade. Plants can be kept in partial-shade or moved to full sun once they read about 3’ tall.
Years to Fruit
Red jaboticaba is considered very precocious for a jaboticaba, fruiting in as little as 4-5 years. Expect grafted plants to fruit in 1-2 years.
Taste
Thin skinned, sweet, and deliciuos.
Climate
Sub-Tropical
Cold Tolerance
Mature cambuca trees are said to be tolerant down to at least 25F.
Propagation
Possibly cold hardy to the mid to high 20sF.
Source
Seeds were obtained from Florida grown fruits
